Thomas Jefferson admired the Greeks, but he had little patience for Plato. In a letter to John Adams on 5 July 1814, after rereading the Republic, he wrote that Socrates “had reason indeed to complain of the misrepresentations of Plato; for in truth his dialogues are libels on Socrates.” This tee sets Jefferson and Plato together in a gold medallion above that line: “His dialogues are libels on Socrates.”
It is a shirt for readers who like their philosophy with a little argument in it. Jefferson thought Plato had dressed up a plain-spoken teacher in mysticism, and he said so to an old friend with real bite. We tell the full story in our blog post Jefferson Against Plato.
It is printed on the front of the Stanley/Stella Creator 2.0 (SATU001) unisex tee, made from 100% organic cotton with GOTS certification. The fabric is soft, breathable and grown without synthetic pesticides. Available in Black, sizes S to 3XL. Each shirt is printed to order, which keeps waste down.
